Call forwarding without a second phone

Keep the number your customers know and choose which calls should reach an assistant. A careful test is more useful than a complicated phone setup.

Choose when calls should be forwarded

Forwarding can cover unanswered calls, a busy line or all incoming calls. The options depend on your provider and phone system. For many small teams, forwarding only when nobody answers is a practical starting point.

Decide whether the assistant should help during customer appointments, after hours or whenever the team cannot pick up. That decision should match the greeting and expectations you give callers.

Configure it with your provider

Your provider may offer a customer portal, handset settings, phone-system settings or dial codes. Use the instructions for your actual connection: codes and supported options differ, so a generic code is not a guarantee.

During rylivo setup, use the destination number assigned to your business. The public demonstration line is for trying the service, not a substitute for your own configured forwarding destination.

Check costs before switching on

A forwarded call may be billed by your telephone provider as an outgoing call to the destination. Whether that is included depends on your tariff and connection. Ask your provider what applies to your number.

Keep a note of the original settings and how to turn forwarding off. That makes the change straightforward to reverse if the destination or timing is wrong.

Test the complete path

  • Call your normal business number from a separate phone.
  • Check that you can still answer normally when you want to.
  • Let a test call go unanswered and check the forwarding delay.
  • Confirm the assistant uses the correct business name and information.
  • Leave a test request, then verify the dashboard entry and configured notifications.
  • Test switching forwarding off and restoring normal ringing.

Forwarding is the connection, not the whole service

The destination still needs to give callers a useful response. Keep opening hours, service information and callback expectations current, and make sure someone owns the follow-up.

With a connected calendar, rylivo checks availability and books the selected appointment. The assistant confirms the appointment to the caller only once the calendar confirms the booking. Without a calendar connection, it records an appointment request for your team to check and confirm.
