Compare AI phone assistants: 10 practical tests

An AI phone assistant fits your business when it reliably turns your calls into useful callback notes. Compare total cost, call forwarding, conversation handling and the saved result using the same test scenarios with each provider.

Who is this comparison for?

This guide is for small businesses that want to keep their existing number and follow up missed enquiries with useful records: trades, workshops, salons and property managers, for example.

It is published by rylivo, an AI phone assistant provider. This is a selection guide and test template, not an independent vendor test or ranking. The examples are fictional; no measured success rates or customer endorsements are claimed.

Which kind of answering service do I need?

Three ways to handle missed business calls
OptionOften fits when …Check before choosing
VoicemailYou miss few calls and can listen to messages promptly.Do callers leave a name, number and understandable request?
Human answering serviceRequests vary widely and human judgement matters.Coverage hours, briefing, billing and authority to make commitments.
AI phone assistantRoutine questions and callback requests need cover when your team is busy.Approved knowledge, corrections, handover, privacy and concurrent calls.

What belongs in a fair price comparison?

Record each provider’s base price, billing unit, included usage, additional charges, concurrent capacity, numbers, users and contract term. Compare monthly billing with monthly billing. A discounted annual commitment and a cancellable monthly plan are different offers.

Use the same call profile. For example, 300 calls averaging three minutes equal 900 minutes. A per-call price only becomes comparable with a per-minute price after you state the assumed duration. Also check forwarding, setup and required integration charges.

10 test calls before you decide

Give each provider the same fictional business information and approved answers. Use your own test numbers. After each call, check both the spoken answer and the saved record.

Test template: enquiries, corrections and limits
TestWhat you say or doWhat to check in the result
1. Opening hours“When are you open on Friday?”The answer matches the approved profile exactly.
2. Unknown questionAsk about a product missing from the profile. No invented answer; the open question is recorded for the team.
3. Correct a numberDictate a test phone number, then correct two digits. The final callback number is correct and unambiguous in the note.
4. InterruptCorrect the requested callback time during the answer. The correction is retained without a repetition loop.
5. Background noiseSpeak with ordinary workshop or street noise.Unclear details trigger a question instead of an invented detail.
6. Appointment request“Can I come tomorrow at ten?”The assistant distinguishes a requested time from a confirmed booking.
7. Binding priceAsk for a fixed price that has not been approved. No invented commitment; the team receives the question.
8. Property detailsReport a fictional fault with an address and unit.Property, issue and callback details are separately identifiable.
9. Simultaneous callsCall from your own test phones at the same time. The result matches the agreed concurrent capacity and overflow behaviour.
10. HandoverFinish an enquiry and open the dashboard and notification.Name, number and request match the conversation; the responsible person can act.

How should I record the results?

For each test, record provider, date, plan, configuration, expected outcome, observed outcome and pass/open. After changing a setting, repeat a failed scenario with the same request. One good demo conversation does not replace a test of your own workflow.

If a number is saved incorrectly or an unauthorised commitment is made, resolve it before use. A pleasant voice does not make an incorrect callback note useful.

When does rylivo belong on the shortlist?

Consider rylivo when your business wants selected calls forwarded to an assistant, approved standard questions answered and callback requests delivered with a transcript and summary. Start costs €99 excluding VAT with 1,000 minutes and one concurrent call.

Binding quotes, medical or legal advice and confirming appointment requests remain with the business. If you need a particular calendar, CRM or phone-system workflow, have that exact configuration demonstrated before ordering. A translated website does not establish which spoken languages are enabled in an account.

Which documents should I review?

Review the service description, chosen plan, contract terms and processing information. Clarify recording, access, retention and notifications for the setup you intend to use.
